It can be assumed Rebecca's sacrifice is required. Without her soul being devoured and empowering Malachi, the fight would not occur and the vampire would have remained imprisoned.
However, it can enter the room by unconventional means to avoid triggering the cg of Rebecca's death and fight directly. Although Rebecca is not marked with a green circle (indicating safety) and the model is unchanged, at least she is not marked with a red circle (indicating death).
